Itinerary and notes
Day 1: Your beach hotel – Batubulan – Besakih – Tenganan – Candidasa
This first day takes us to Batubulan, where the traditional Barong dance is performed. From there, the route climbs northward through an unusually beautiful landscape with spectacular rice terraces. After a gentle ascent to an elevation of 900 meters, we reach the slope of Mount Agung and the great temple sanctuary “Pura Besakih.” Afterwards, the route descends to the village of Tenganan, home of the original Balinese. Tenganan is also famous for its special weaving technique, the double ikat – a woven cloth called “Kamben Geringsing.”
Overnight stay: Ramayana Candidasa Beach Resort or equivalent hotel.
Day 2: Snorkeling in the Blue Lagoon – Goa Lawah – Klungkung – Goa Gajah – Ubud
After breakfast, we first drive to Padang Bai. From there, we set out by fishing boat for snorkeling in the crystal-clear sea of the Blue Lagoon. After this two-hour, refreshing experience in the underwater world, the journey continues along the east coast. A visit to the bat cave “Goa Lawah” is on the program, where thousands of bats nest. Afterwards the route leads us to Klungkung, the former seat of Bali’s most important ruling house, as well as to the historic 17th-century court hall “Kerta Gosa,” where judges of another era once pronounced their verdicts. In the afternoon, a visit to the Elephant Cave “Goa Gajah” is planned. It is one of the most fascinating and oldest cultural monuments in Bali and an important spiritual center that combines elements of Hinduism and Buddhism.
Overnight stay: Sahadewa Hotel or equivalent hotel in Ubud. (B)
Day 3: Ubud – Tegallalang – Kintamani – Lovina
After breakfast, we first drive to the center of Ubud. One of the main sights is the centrally located princely palace “Puri Saren.” Afterwards, we continue to Tegallalang, where Bali’s most beautiful rice terraces await us. On the subsequent uphill route, we stop for a spice learning trip, where we can get to know various spice plants. We continue to Kintamani on the rim of the Batur crater caldera, which offers a breathtaking view of Lake Batur. Via a winding road, we finally reach the temple of the rice goddess Dewi Sri, “Pura Beji.” It serves as a place where the farmers of the region gather to pray for a good harvest, present offerings (Banten) and thank the goddess for the life-giving water.
Overnight stay: New Sunari Lovina Beach Resort or equivalent hotel in Lovina. (B)
Day 4: Lovina – Bedugul – Tanah Lot – Your beach hotel
After a photo stop at Gitgit Waterfall, a scenic mountain route leads us toward Bedugul. Along the mountain road you can feed wild monkeys. Afterwards we visit the temple “Pura Ulun Danu Bratan,” which rises picturesquely from Lake Bratan, usually veiled in clouds. In a mountain village, we also visit a local vegetable market. As the crowning highlight of the round trip, the famous rock temple “Tanah Lot” on the west coast is finally on the program; it is also known as the sea temple. Afterwards, the transfer to your beach hotel follows. (B)
