Itinerary and notes

Day 1: Beach hotel – Tanah Lot – Traditional market in Tabanan – Jatiluwih – Marga

After pickup from your beach hotel, the round trip begins toward the west. First we visit the famous rock temple Tanah Lot. Afterwards, the journey continues to Tabanan, Bali’s “rice bowl,” where we visit a traditional market. For the lunch break, we stop at a beautifully located restaurant with a magnificent view of the rice terraces.

After lunch, you drive along a small country road past the dreamlike rice terraces of Jatiluwih. Afterwards, we visit these impressive, oldest rice terraces of Bali, which descend in endless steps all the way toward the sea.

Overnight stay: Villa Taman di Blayu (or equivalent hotel) | Meals: B (breakfast)

Day 2: Marga – Bedugul – Munduk – Banjar – Lovina

After breakfast, you first drive uphill toward Bedugul and visit the vegetable market in a mountain village. Afterwards you visit the idyllic water temple Pura Ulun Danu Beratan, located directly on Lake Beratan. The journey continues upward to the Pancasari mountain pass. Here a double highlight awaits you: the enchanting panorama of the twin lakes Tamblingan and Buyan, as well as an encounter with our animal relatives, the macaques. Past the mountain village of Munduk, the journey continues to Bali’s legendary north coast. First, you visit “Air Panas Banjar,” a hot, sacred sulfur spring with bathing facilities that is said to have healing effects. After this refreshing experience, you visit Brahma Vihara Arama, a Buddhist monastery and meditation center.

Overnight stay: Hotel New Sunari Lovina (or equivalent hotel) | Meals: B

Day 3: Sunrise boat trip – Sangsit – Kintamani – Ubud

Early in the morning at 6:00, you set out in traditional fishing boats for a trip into the sunrise – with a little luck, you may see dolphins (weather-dependent). After breakfast at the hotel, the journey continues to the village of Sangsit, where you visit the 15th-century Pura Beji temple, known for its richly decorated sculptures. The route continues to Kintamani on the caldera of the Batur crater, from where you have a breathtaking view of Lake Batur. During the lunch break, you enjoy the fantastic view of the huge crater basin from which the Batur volcano rises. After lunch, we continue to Tegallalang, where some of Bali’s most beautiful rice terraces await you

Overnight stay: Sahadewa Resort & Spa Ubud (or equivalent hotel) | Meals: B

Day 4: Ubud and surroundings

After breakfast at the hotel, you visit a traditional Balinese house compound in the village of Singapadu, which gives you an authentic insight into the everyday life of the locals. Afterwards, the route continues to Batubulan, where the traditional Barong dance is performed. In the artists’ village of Batuan, a visit to a village temple is on the program.

In the afternoon, a visit to the Elephant Cave “Goa Gajah” is planned. Afterwards you visit the princely palace “Puri Saren” in Ubud, which gives you an insight into the present-day life of the princely caste.

Overnight stay: Sahadewa Resort & Spa Ubud (or equivalent hotel) | Meals: B

Day 5: Ubud – Klungkung – Besakih – Tirta Gangga – Amlapura – Candi Dasa

After breakfast, you drive to Klungkung, the former seat of Bali’s most important ruling house. Here you visit the historic Kerta Gosa court hall, built in the 17th century, where judges of a past era pronounced their verdicts. The next stop is the mother temple Pura Besakih at the foot of the 3,142-meter-high Mount Agung, the residence of the Hindu gods.

You spend the lunch break in a beautifully located restaurant with a magnificent view of the surrounding rice terraces. Through a picturesque landscape, the journey continues to the water palace “Tirta Gangga,” built in 1948 as a place of recreation for the prince of Karangasem.

Overnight stay: Ramayana Candidasa Dive & Resort (or equivalent hotel) | Meals: B

Day 6: Candi Dasa – Tenganan – Goa Lawah – Beach hotel

After breakfast, the tour begins with a visit to the village of Tenganan, where the “Bali Aga” – the original Balinese – live. Tenganan is world-famous for its traditional double ikat weaving technique, used to make the sacred cloths (“Kamben Geringsing”). Afterwards, you drive to the fishing village of Kusamba, where outrigger boats with colorful sails stand out vividly against the black lava beach. An important source of income on this coast is traditional salt production, which you can observe in the small straw huts along the road.

Very nearby is the bat cave “Goa Lawah,” where thousands of bats hang from the walls. Afterwards, the transfer back to your beach hotel follows. Meals: B
